Welcome to Makers Met, a London-based creative platform that explores the stories behind the urban artisans shaping the way we eat and bringing the humanity back into our food, drink and design scene. We’re talking the social enterprise bakers, the booch brewers, the ceramicists spinning plates for city restaurants – all different yet united in creating high-quality, low-impact goods on a small but influential scale.

In their own words, on this website and beyond, we’ll hear how these bladesmiths, woodworkers, charcuterie and chocolate makers are reinvigorating our cities’ strong neighbourhood traditions – simultaneously drawing on time-honoured techniques, experimenting with the new and prioritising locally sourced materials and ingredients. These are the gritty, talented and imaginative craftspeople that Makers Met has been created to seek out and celebrate.

Like cities, food has always brought people together, and we’re no exception. Friends, former colleagues and Makers Met founders Emma Ventura and Anna Berrill met while working together at Jamie Oliver’s magazine, bonding over a shared love of storytelling, strong editorial values and the geographical, historical and cultural riches that surround food. Right now, in these post-pandemic times, as we move away from the mass-market and towards authentic, more sustainable ways of living, it seems to us that these things have never been more important.

Drop us an email if you’d like to talk or work with us, and do check us out on Insta and subscribe to our newsletter. Meanwhile, we hope you’ll enjoy meeting these urban makers as we enter their kitchens, workshops and studio spaces around the world.
